Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12
We are a community of 6th–12th graders that helps students become aware of and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Activities include weekly gatherings, small groups, retreats, fun outings and mission work.
If you’re looking for a space where you can just hang out, be yourself and talk about stuff that’s relevant to your life, then check this out. Students in grades 6–12 meet Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Gathering Place, Rm. 6 on the Lower Level. It’s a comfortable place that’s just for students.
Our Big Deal every week starts up at 5:30pm on Sundays, and runs to 7:30pm. Here we learn together, have fun together, and grow together as teens finding our way and place in life. We also chow down on some pretty good food, prepared by church members.
Everything in the universe is in relationship; one does not exist without the other. Our Sunday Night events hope to provide an “atmosphere” where the following “laws” apply:
- We acknowledge one another as equals.
- We try to stay open to each other by asking questions.
- We recognize that we need each other’s help to become better listeners.
- We slow down so we have time to think & reflect.
- We expect it to be messy at times.
As followers of Christ, we believe that we are to serve others. Mission work is at the heart of serving Christ, but mission work is not just going on a trip, it’s a way of living “missional”. We deeply value relationships, and living missional means that God sends us out into relationship with others. We don’t serve with the intent to help but to truly “serve” through relationship. This is at the heart of Faith Missions.
The journey of faith is a life-long process. It’s not something we graduate from or complete. Throughout that journey are milestones where we recognize & respond to the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit that equips us for the journey. Confirmation is one of those significant milestones. When students are confirmed, they profess their faith in Jesus Christ and commit to continuing to grow in that faith for the rest of their lives.
Students in 8th–12th grade are eligible for our confirmation series, CREDO. To prepare, students meet in bi-weekly groups for six months. We seek to provide an atmosphere of listening, support and encouragement. We want students to know that their faith journey and their story are truly unique. Both have tremendous importance. We try to keep class sizes small to encourage relationship-building & learning.
The 2014-2015 CREDO series begins September 14th.
